A Grade 1 Area Court Aso Pada, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, on Wednesday dissolved an eight-year-old marriage over wife’s abandonment of matrimonial home.

Yeno Shekwogaza, 43, filed an application before the court seeking to divorce his 39-year-old wife, Grace Dada, over allegation of abandoning her matrimonial home for a almost a year.

Shekwogaza in his application said there was no longer love between them and complained that his wife whom he married in 2007 had since abandoned their matrimonial home and went to live with her parents.

“I have asked her several times what the problem is, but she will not tell me, since she is no longer interested in the marriage, so I am also no longer interested.

“I want the court to dissolve my marriage with her and give me custody of my children to take care of them.

However, the wife denied all the allegations and accused her husband of not allowing her to work.

“I was tired of staying idle and I told my husband I want to work or he should give me money to start a business,
but he refused, saying he can take care of his family.

“I still love my husband, but since he is seeking for a divorce, I do not have anything to say, than to grant him his wish.”

The Presiding Judge, Albert Maga, granted Shekwogaza’s request and dissolved the marriage blessed with two children.

He ruled: “Since the husband has insisted that the divorce be granted and the respondent did not object, I order that Shekwogaza should get an accommodation for Grace and his two children.

“The petitioner should get a place for the respondent to stay since she cannot stay in her parent’s house with the children and also provide financial assistance to the children,

“The marriage is hereby dissolved; the petitioner should go to the registrar’s office and get a divorce certificate.”
