Tottenham tipped to rival Man United in race to sign veteran Diego Godin

Image
Tottenham look set to rival Manchester United for the signing of veteran Inter defender Diego Godin. The 34-year-old only joined the Nerazzurri at the beginning of the season but he could be convinced to depart San Siro after spending time in and out of the first team this term. According to the Mirror, Jose Mourinho has earmarked the Uruguayan as the man to tighten up Spurs’ leaky defence. Prior to the Premier League’s postponement, Tottenham had conceded 40 goals in 29 games – the joint-worst total in the top half of the table. Before making the move to Inter, Godin carved out a reputation as a fearsome, no-nonsense defender with Diego Simeone’s stoic Atletico Madrid side. During his time in the Spanish capital, the center-back was part of the Rojiblancos team who lifted the La Liga trophy in 2014 and also reached two Champions League finals. Mourinho has long been an admirer of his talents, attempting to sign him when he was in charge at Old Trafford ba

‘Nobody can match Neymar technically, not even Messi’

Image
Brazil legend Cafu thinks Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is the most technically-gifted footballer in the world with even Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi struggling to match him. Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are widely regarded as the two best players of their generation but Cafu reckons Neymar – who loves displaying his skills – is the best player in the world in terms of technical ability. “Technically, Neymar is the best player in the world,” Cafu told FOX Sports. “Today, technically, nobody can beat Neymar. Not even Messi, although I am a fan of him. But he does not surpass him in terms of technical quality.” On the Brazil captaincy, Cafu added: “Today I don’t see any leader within the Brazilian team. “Today I don’t see anyone who says this to Neymar: ‘Oh, don’t do this’ or ‘Do this’. There is not! “They gave him that responsibility, and it’s not his profile. It’s not that he doesn’t want to, but because it’s not his profile. “Have you ever s

Man Utd legend opens up on ‘regret’ at leaving after 1999 Treble

Image
Manchester United legend Peter Schmeicheladmits his “pride” got in the way of him remaining at Old Trafford for “many more years”. The goalkeeper left the club in the summer of 19991 after captaining the Treble-winning side’s victory in the Champions League final. The Dane claims his mental and physical exhaustion caused him to end his eight-year association with the Red Devils, but he admits he “regrets” the manner of his exit. “It’s over 20 years ago now and during that period of time you go through a lot of phases,” he explained. “First of all I went through retirement from football, then it was nice not to go in for a while and before you know you start to miss it all a bit. “As you become further and further away from football your thinking process becomes better. “I could have possibly played on for many more years [at Manchester United] had I cut back a little bit on the pride and spoken to the manager about it – but I didn’t.” He continued: “I wa

Bayern propose attractive swap offer to Man City for Sane – report

Image
Bayern Munich have reportedly proposed a swap deal to Manchester City to prize Leroy Sane away from the Premier League champions. Sane has consistently been linked with a move to Bayern, and a deal was thought to be close last summer before Sane picked up the serious injury that has kept him out for the season. Bayern have suggested a swap deal that would see versatile Austria international David Alaba move to the Etihad, and Sane go the other way, according to BILD (via FourFourTwo) Alaba’s agent Pini Zahavi has pitched the idea to the English club, who have taken it under consideration. Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to be interested in the versatile defender. Sane also has a deal running until the summer of 2021 and City run the risk of losing him for free if he doesn’t agree a fresh deal this summer. The winger has only made one appearance for City this season in the Community Shield back in August, whereas Alaba has featured regularly for Bayer

Arsenal ‘launch £25m bid’ to seal Smalling transfer from Man Utd

The United defender has had a standout season on loan at Roma this season, helping the Series A side into the last 16 of the Europa League and to fifth place in the league. The England international has been widely tipped to make his Roma switch permanent, but United now also have an offer on the table from the Gunners, according to Corriere dello Sport. Roma were hoping to land Smalling for £20million but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping to secure £25million for the 30-year-old.   Arsenal have already signed young Saint-Etienne centre-back William Saliba, who is due to join the rest of the squad this summer, but Mikel Arteta wants to add more experience to his defence. Along with Smalling, Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano and Frankfurt’s Evan N’Dicka are also thought to be on Arteta’s radar. United will reportedly allow Smalling to leave if they can lure Kalidou Koulibaly
