NO NO NO WWE legend Daniel Bryan suggests he will retire from full-time wrestling in 2020
Daniel Bryan is already widely considered one of the greatest in-ring performers of all-time, but he might not be doing it on a full-time basis much longer.
The 38-year-old only returned to the ring after having to retire for nearly two years due to concussion problems back in 2018.
Since he returned, Bryan has managed to reinvent himself as the wildly entertaining heel ‘the new Daniel Bryan’ and had a tremendous run as WWE champion.
While he is still a vital staple of SmackDown, the Leader of the Yes Movement told his wife Brie on the Bellas podcast that he is ready to wind down being a full-time performer.
The couple are expecting their second baby this year and Bryan’s contact is also up later in 2020.
“WWE has been great, they are going to give me six weeks paternity leave. I get to be home that first six weeks, but then after that it’s not long until my contract is up. In my mind, I think I’m just done being a full time wrestler. I will always love wrestling, and I always wanna do wrestling, but when I say always do wrestling, that means once a month, or once every couple months.”
Bryan is a great mind in professional wrestling and he is often involved in the production meetings with the company. He would be sorely missed and, in the grand scheme of things, 38 is a young age to walk away.
However, if he wants to wrestle on a part-time basis and perhaps work a role in the company behind the scenes that suits his family needs, why wouldn’t he do that?
The five-time world champion doesn’t have a clear plan heading into WrestleMania, which is just a few short weeks away.
He was feuding with Drew Gulak, but the match they had at Elimination Chamber – which Bryan won – has seemingly caused them to find respect for each other and create a team.
Will they be involved in the tag team title picture? Bryan has also had issues with Sami Zayn, Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura, so an Intercontinental title matchup wouldn’t be out of the question.
Either way, we should cherish Bryan while we can!
