Champions League Final Doesn’t Come Cheap For Hosts Berlin

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern and Juventus await Champions League semi-final draw fate
The Champions League final between Barcelona and Juventus will cost the hosting city of Berlin at least 5.2 million euros (5.9 million dollars), the Tagesspiegel paper said on Friday.
The paper said the city’s governing senate had issued a statement concerning the game on June 6, and the women’s final played on Thursday, to the research bureau correctiv.org.

Under rules of the governing body UEFA Berlin has to provide a fan mile for UEFA and its sponsors free of charge, with other areas of the capital also reserved for activities around the match.

Costs for a “celebration party’’ for 500 invited guests on the eve of the men’s game in the Olympic stadium are given at 154,000 euros.

Berlin hopes for an image boost from the game, and will also generate income from the tens of thousands of fans from Spain and Italy to descend on the city. (dpa/NAN)
